Yufu River Gorge

A gorge spreading for 12 km between Beppu City and Yufu City.
Lined with bare rock walls with heights ranging from 15 to 60 m and 40 waterfalls, this beautiful scenery is called “The Tyrol of the East.”
The rock-walls, eroded smooth by the flowing water and covered with moss give this place a fantastical air, which draws in many visitors.
Both entrances, the Tsubaki (camellia) entrance at the Beppu City side and the Saruwatari (monkey bars) entrance at the Yufu City side both lead down to the riverside.
Access: 40 minutes by car from Yufuin Station, or 30 minutes by car from Mukai no Haru Station.
